Mildred Inez Box

	Mildred Inez Box, 84, of Sheffield, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002, being lovingly tended by family, friends and staff at Park Place retirement home in Sheffield.
	A native of Colbert County, Alabama, Mrs. Box and her husband resided for many years in DuQuoin, Illinois where she was active in community affairs.
	 She worked with garden clubs, Girl Scouts and chaired the Perry County Cancer Crusade.  She held numerous service offices and served as president of the 25th District of Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs.
	 Since returning to Alabama, Mrs. Box organized Beta Sigma Phi  sorority in Courtland, Ala. and was an active member in the Shoals chapter.
	She is survived by her nieces, Sarah Borden of Florence, Ala., Rebecca Jackson and husband Larry of Memphis, Tenn. and Martha Ingalls of Summerville, S.C.
	 She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hallon Box; infant son and brothers, J.D. Johnson and Robert 'Mutt' Johnson.
	Funeral services were held Thursday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at Park Place  with Dr. George Cobb officiating.  Interment was in Tuscumbia Oakwood Cemetery.
	Visitation was Wednesday, June 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Park Place.  Colbert Memorial Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements.
	In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the humane shelter or Hospice of the Shoals.
